ISRO’s LVM3-M6 Rocket Carries Record-Breaking Payload
On December 24, 2025, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) made history with the successful launch of its LVM3-M6 rocket, often called ‘Baahubali’ due to its immense lifting capabilities. The mission, originating from the second launch pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, carried the advanced Bluebird Block-2 communication satellite into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at 8:54 a.m. This 43.5-meter-tall, three-stage rocket precisely placed the 6,100 kg satellite into its intended orbit.
This launch is particularly notable as the 6,100 kg Bluebird Block-2 satellite represents the heaviest commercial payload ever launched by an LVM3 vehicle from India. The previous record was held by the LVM3-M5 Communication Satellite 03, weighing approximately 4,400 kg, launched on November 2. The Bluebird Block-2 mission is a dedicated commercial venture, stemming from an agreement between NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), ISRO’s commercial arm, and the US-based AST SpaceMobile.
The primary goal of the Bluebird Block-2 satellite is to provide high-speed cellular broadband directly to standard smartphones across the globe. This innovative technology aims to deliver 4G and 5G voice and video calls, texts, streaming, and data services to everyone, everywhere, significantly enhancing mobile connectivity even in remote areas. The successful deployment of this next-generation satellite further solidifies ISRO’s growing influence in the global commercial launch market.
